Ways to Give
Our Founders
UPMC Children’s Hospital started the Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation thanks to philanthropists Rob and Cindy Citrone and Citrone 33, in partnership with the Milken Institute. The Citrone 33 donated $2 million to improve outcomes in pediatric transplant.
We need your help!
With your gift, the Network will become an even bigger driving force in the future of pediatric transplant. Help honor the vision of Thomas E. Starzl, MD, and donate to the Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation.
The Citrone Family’s Transformational Support
The Citrone Family understands the lifesaving value of organ transplantation, and they have committed talent and resources to making better care a reality in the near term.
Through their work with the Center for Strategic Philanthropy of the Milken Institute, which is an “action tank” determined to remove barriers to medical progress, they uncovered the imminent need to increase the number of organ donors and then launched “Play It Forward Pittsburgh,” a season-long partnership of the three major sports teams and more than 35 other organizations.
The campaign was a rousing success that resulted in the registration of more than 1,200 new organ donors and a total campaign reach of over 5 million impressions. The Starzl Network for Excellence in Pediatric Transplantation is the legacy of this campaign and of the Citrones’ passion for improving transplant outcomes.
